Terms of service

Last updated 6 July 2026 · Plain-language terms for riders and drivers.

The service. Boda Moja is a technology platform that connects riders with independent boda boda drivers in Kilifi County, Kenya. Drivers are independent operators, not employees of Boda Moja.

Accounts. You must provide accurate information (name, phone number) and keep your account secure. One account per person. Accounts used fraudulently or abusively may be suspended or removed.

Fares. Fares are calculated as a base fare plus a per-kilometre rate, with a minimum fare, and shown before you confirm a booking. The current formula is published on the riders page. The fare shown at booking is the fare owed.

Payments. In-app payments are processed via M-Pesa. Cash payment directly to the driver is also accepted at the same fare. Repeated non-payment leads to removal from the platform.

Safety. Drivers must hold a valid licence, be verified, and carry helmets and reflective vests for themselves and their passenger. Riders must wear the provided helmet. Either party may cancel a trip they believe is unsafe.

Conduct. Treat each other with respect. Harassment, discrimination, or dangerous behaviour by riders or drivers results in removal.

Liability. Boda Moja provides the technology connecting riders and drivers and does not itself provide transport. To the extent permitted by Kenyan law, Boda Moja is not liable for loss arising from the acts of riders or drivers. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Kenyan consumer protection law.

Changes. We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the app and on this page before they take effect. Continued use after a change means acceptance.
